And welcome back have a talking tonight to Florida senator Marco Rubio the author of the brand new autobiography.
American son joining me now on stage is better half and we're happy to have.
His wife -- joining us in studio welcome to the program you know -- saudis have here.
Everybody.
All right -- the -- He writes about you you don't enjoy politics and you had no desire to be a senator's wife.
Now I'm not political person.
By no means can you know I mean I mean obviously -- was involved in politics survey on -- you know within.
While we -- together but you know it's.
Obviously when the sentence situation came into paying.
You know is something that I was -- that -- You know they've taken by but -- -- know how he wanted to make a difference and -- and you know I supported there was hearing.
Very.
-- and then -- further in the -- he really says you really hammered him a couple times on the on the issue of politics one had to do and -- is considering running for the senate.
And you know you said -- you do it.
In other words because you were saying at the time you know I wish somebody would do -- I wish somebody would do and it was you confronted him and said why don't you do -- Play because he was sit down and he would you know gets a faster when he received especially when -- -- some of the things -- that the governor at the time would do and say.
And the way I guess things are going you know in an -- clinching.
He you know I told Michael you -- do it if you feel the strong about it just do it now and.
But that's different from because he also described you as a wife who would be happy wanted to.
Husband and that home at 6 o'clock for dinner every night so.
You must've felt strongly as well that he could do -- good job.
I didn't have the reasoning ability -- different have been mean that.
What he -- me.
Would he his passion for -- for doing something you know for you know and politically in and I mean for people actually.
I I I play I believed in him.
And saw -- It came over there was a couple moments and decision when you had not raised a lot of money and you think -- -- I don't have a chance in this race he's -- only endorsements he's got all the money.
And you begin to doubt.
That whether you should do -- -- you considered running for either governor attorney general of the time right.
What was the most -- -- -- -- why did you didn't want to lose you even said you have.
I had out of an -- to him and everything I knew about politics have to that points that I was gonna lose them and I was behind in the polls I couldn't raise money everyone was endorsing him.
I had never run statewide before I mean everything I had ever known about politics up until that point.
Taught me that I was going to lose and I was gonna lose badly -- it wanna go through that night -- wanna put them through a year and a half of campaign for our.
For a cause that couldn't be one.
But but -- I think -- that was really illustrative for me was was she reminded me of why I want to be in this to begin with this wasn't to be somebody.
Was to do something if you want to be somebody and you run for the easiest office.
And that's why you know it was I remember when I first interviewed you in the first time we met the there was a point -- nobody really knew the war.
You would not eat it was -- could assume that for Charlie Crist to win that position -- right and and and you know and and that gets to two and so I think what I had was doubt about whether I can win and quite frankly I was trying to figure out a way to save face to that -- wanna be embarrassed and I.
Humiliating loss after -- after spending a year and a half chasing something that wasn't possible.
But we're at the end of the day I'm glad that happen that way I consider it a blessing.
Because it forced me to ask myself why are you in this and -- oh early in this race the only thing I had with me.
Was my family my principles and the support of a handful of people around the state who as they met me believe that I can be a voice for what they wanted and.
-- you led the charge against him changing.
You know to them easier race.
Yet that's what he writes that you led that charge even though you didn't really have a lot of interest to be in the senator's wife.
One usually -- charged what did you see in him that made you say I gotta I gotta I had a pro pro.
Because he's cited -- him to second base and he was in yeah I knew why he was trying to find a way now and it wasn't because.
He didn't think it was and because of what he believed in it was because of the because he was seen at it was it was time to get hide.
And so that challenge.
To me I -- to wasn't a reason to data something that you don't that you feel strongly about and you think everything in what you do everything in my life would is good.
It's hard.
You know it's -- it's -- -- so I I.
And I don't you're going to be him he used the words humiliated and destroyed you know I've got to lose by thirty points -- -- that.
Spend all kinds of money against me to tell people how about I was I thought it needed.
Yeah well but I thought in at the time I would have the money even defend myself and at the end not only would I not be elect that would struggle to find a job and is gonna hire a lawyer that the -- Smeared for early on television stay wide and and -- worried about those things but.
I'm glad that it happened that way because as I said in the book and and and it was really a faith journey to because.
You know I it's not some forgot it was just about the politics it was about me being more reliant on him one of the hardest things that we face in our faith.
Is are we able to abandon ourselves to god and -- as well whatever that will maybe and and in this race I had nothing but faith left at the beginning because it was -- -- When you talk about -- writing you know saying that I'll support anything you decide I'm with you in this together with -- god I love you believe in you.
Which was great and you sign me -- issues and you -- those are.
But but he.
You do realizes.
-- looking at this a little more objectively perhaps that you're making the argument that if you get a call.
For another job that you've got to accept that you do know that the exact thing you're laying on the the nice trying -- Well I hate when I get busted on that that in -- All right well I gave it my best shot for -- a take a break we'll come back.
