Generally a whole Lotta developments in the race for the white house with -- 89 days to go until the election if -- downing and we what do you kind of -- on the action today.
The president and governor Romney both are on the road the president once again in Colorado.
Right now he's getting ready for a campaign event in buffalo.
Colorado is an all important battleground state there's nine electoral votes up for grabs they are very important -- And Colorado the real clear politics polling average -- -- super close race there are right now the president -- governor Romney.
By a little more than a points.
And meantime the Republican presidential candidate is in New York City today hot on the money trail attending a series.
-- big fundraisers New York has 29 electoral votes it is not a battleground state in back to see if we're gonna -- it is is for her is we look at these polls from real clear politics average -- well.
And the president is well ahead of governor Ronnie they're leading him roughly 58 to thirty -- been going Democrat I the last several years at least.
Now all this comes amid growing controversy.
A race super pac ad that essentially blames governor Romney's business dealings for a woman's death.
Women -- remain closed -- I lost my health care yeah.
In my family lost their health care and now.
Short time after that my wife became ill.
Joining us now -- crystal during the weekly standard and of proxies political analysts have -- lot of different opinions about this -- over the last -- four hours I like to ask your question about strategy.
Why now why -- the super -- released this ad now in the campaign.
Well I think they think these tax a big capital -- having some residents and they're testing the limits of how far they can go and to try to see what kind of reaction they get from the mainstream media -- kind of reaction they get from the Romney campaign.
-- -- they can call Mitt Romney a murderer and basically get away with it -- -- and I think they are.
I hope not I hope not but I think the Romney campaign really needs to make this unacceptable.
And not simply say oh GS very fortunate to Mitt Romney's four of about a health care system this is really beyond the pale and President Obama needs to -- that.
And I think Mitt Romney should not only call on President Obama to ask that it be taken off the air but really.
You don't think seriously about making a much bigger issue about.
What kind of campaign President Obama supporters are running I mean this really is beyond any pay -- I've been around presidential campaigns is a lot of kind of slightly below the belt punches and that kind of thing that this is this is really -- new.
Since you were -- is defending it Bill Burton guy that runs as you were packed.
I just said just yesterday that this is part of its -- million dollar ad buy -- a lot about ground stays that's their plan right now anyways -- we'll see what happens over the next.
Couple hours spent you know it's not just the states that could be running this -- obviously the national media as well we just ran a part of that so.
Could things really gaining from this right now is it.
Is it -- Romney or is it the president.
I think that's very much we determined you know one would wish that -- and and a nice world of fairness and justice if you -- below the belt that -- really outrageous that this personal unjustified attack on the arms of someone.
You would pay a price for it but in the real world -- -- someone calls you want it let's someone hits back.
And -- somewhat serious stands up and says it will Mr.
President are you.
You -- you OK with this that do you think Bill Burton worked -- bill -- a close associate of -- -- if you're.
Campaign manager David Axelrod is this fine with you -- -- some serious people stand up and say that and save -- some indignation and some anger.
That I think they could get away with that and Mitt Romney needs to show a little bit angry here you know -- candidates are always -- be disciplined.
Be calm cool and collected that's what voters -- as the president.
Well I think if someone accuses you of murdering someone.
You're entitled to be a little outraged and -- already -- -- from hair.
I really don't know you know but if I think if they get away with this.
Unfortunately you know voters tend to look and say I don't know maybe there's some truth to that it is is that how heartless he wasn't in the as a capitalist is not care about people.
He really needs to defend himself his people sorry to -- to get out there defend himself.
And I don't think this is the case we could have some staff that's -- -- hero staffers about -- -- Mitt Romney is a good guy of his health care plan would actually take care of this.
You need serious people out there you need -- Chris Christie.
Or four riot out there saying this is wholly unacceptable and this plainly unacceptable even mention those names now because you're gonna talk a little bit about the vice presidential pick which is something that a lot of folks are talking about and you -- -- the weekly standard.
As well and the names have been mentioned at least right now senator Portman from Ohio -- governor -- from Minnesota.
But you also have Paul Ryan getting back since the -- here congressman Paul Ryan a Wisconsin in the Wall Street Journal had this to say.
About Paul Ryan today -- want to share this with -- -- get your thoughts and you can pull up that full screen for everybody to see that quote this is not is gonna be a different talents go ahead of what the full screen.
The Wall Street Journal says -- it all you can hear the murmurs of the ultimate Washington insults.
That mr.
Ryan is too dangerous because he -- politics is about things that matter.
That did -- really believes in something.
And we certainly can't have that all of -- highly recommend Tim for the job when you think about that bill as part Ryan got.
I think he could be should be very seriously considered Steve pays -- -- this a few days ago it's good that the Wall Street Journal.
On board if you -- -- run a serious forward looking positive campaign we have a choice ahead we're going off a cliff we're going bankrupt.
We need the right policies to fix this.
Paul Ryan is the right VP choice I mean I think he's the best national legislator Republicans have is the intellectual leader of Republicans in Washington.
Mitt Romney should pick him -- the alternatives I think marker rubio and incredibly talented.
A young politician and I do think Chris Christie -- come back into the mix in the last few days.
I think -- and Christie are the two bowl picks that are now.
-- -- With the two safer picks Rob Portman and Tim Pawlenty -- and I gotta say this add to said -- I think helps make the case for Christie and they're gonna run this kind of campaign against.
Against that Ronnie who do you want by your side defending you -- right of the great.
Chris Christie would be even greater I think -- Chris Christie would be a tough guy to have flat out what Chris Christie with me for getting -- -- -- fight.
I think Chris Christie could bring a pretty big -- and wouldn't be too hesitant about -- yet again tonight fights frequently about the -- just change our conversation.
And I'm definitely I would I would draw that metaphor and I don't think it's fair to -- the -- doesn't do knife fights either but.
He's a Bulldog let's let it go to a dog Matta for an out of life metaphor is visible -- -- maybe you ought to Bulldog -- -- -- -- Let me just bring it interests if this ad changes any -- changes the dynamics and after the race where it could affect decisions like that.
As one of the reasons we're taking a closer look today shall see what happens over the next several days and weeks bell.
Be careful of this nice fights were watching you -- Alex thank the next time.
